Maharaja Gulab Singh Award
This award is given to the distinguished person from the State who has excelled in ones field of performance and has gained national and international recognition. The first Maharaja Gulab Singh award was given in 2004. Following is the list of awardees:-
Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma – 2004 |
In 2004 Maharaja Gulab Singh Anniversary was celebrated by Maharaja Gulab Singh Trust. Noted musician Padma Shri Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma, credited for introducing new instrument the Santoor in the Hindustani classical music. Hailing from Jammu, the trustees of the Maharaja Gulab Singh under the Chairmanship of Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi awarded the first Maharaja Gulab Singh Award to Pandit Shiv Kumar Sharma for his outstanding achievements in the field of music and the glory he has brought to the name of Jammu throughout the country and the world. |

In 2005 General Vij PVM, AVSM, UYSM under the Chairmanship of Maharani Yasho Rajya Lakshmi was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award for his outstanding achievements during his service. |
Shri Rajendra S. Pawar – 2006 |
In 2006 Rajender Singh Pawar, under the Chairmanship of Dr. Karan Singh was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award for his significant role in shaping the IT policies of the government of India. Global Business Intelligence Firm and Young conferred Mr Pawar with its prestigious award “Master Entrepreneur of the year” award in 1999. He has also been named as “IT Man of the Year” by IT industry journal, Dataquest. |
Smt. Padma Sachdev – 2007 |
In 2007 Smt. Padma Sachdev was awarded Maharaja Gulab Singh award. Smt Padma Sachdev, an outstanding and profile writer in Dogri and Hindi, was born on April 17, 1940 at Jammu. Padma ji has been honoured nationally and internationally for her literary contributions. She was honoured with Padma Shri in 2001 and has won other important honours andawards. |
Justice A.S. Anand – 2008 |
2008 – Justice Adarsh Sein was born on November 1, 1936 in Jammu. He received his early education in Jammu. After completing his graduation from Jammu and Kashmir University, took the degree of LLB from Lucknow University. After completing his bar-at-law in 1964, he set up a lucrative practice at the Punjab and Haryana. In 1975 he was appointed as the Additional Judge of Jammu and Kashmir High Court. Justice Anand was confirmed as a permanent judge. He became the Chief Justice of Jammu and Kashmir. Later he was transferred to the Madras High Court and two years later elevated as a Supreme Court judge. He had authored several books, including “The Constitution of Jammu and Kashmir- its Development and Comments.” He was unanimously elected as the president of the International Institute of Human Rights Society in 1996. On 17 February 2003, he took over as the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission. For his outstanding contribution in administration of justice, the President of India conferred PadamVibhushan to him on 26th January 2008. Shri Balwant Thakur – 2011 |
2011 - Balwant Thakur a young and noted theatre director was born in 1960. He is among the most creative theatre director of the country who has given new identity to the Indian theatre. In the State Academy Theatre Festival he won his first State Academy Award in 1983 and the same award in 1984 and 1985. His popular plays are Ghumayee, BawaJitto, SunoEkKahani, Chauraha.
Balawant Thakur has the honour of presenting his plays in different countries like Bangkok, Moscow, Dubai, Rome etc. Currently he is heading Natrang theatre at Jammu, a professional cultural institution of Jammu and Kashmir. To honour his outstanding contribution in the field Indian Theatre, members of the Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust under the chairmanship of Dr. Karan Singh conferred Maharaja Gulab Singh Award.

Dr. Ved Kumari – 2012 |
2012- Dr. Ved Kumari Ghai was born on 14th December, 1931 in Jammu. She had her schooling from Jammu and later did her post-graduation in Sanskrit. She has number of publications to her credit including Nilamata Purana. She was associated with research projects on Dogri Phonetics and phonology in the institute of Phonetics, Copenhagen University, Denmark for four years, and taught Painin’ Grammar and Sanskrit Literature in the institute of Indic studies, Denmark for two years.

Shri Mohit Raina – 2013 |
2013 - Mohit Raina is the Grasim Mr India title and is one of the famous television actor. He was born on 14 August 1982 at Jammu. He did his schooling and graduation from Jammu. Later he moved to Mumbai to pursue his acting career. His debut serial was Antariksh on Star Plus. He also acted in few Hindi Movies. He has worked in many serials like Chehra, Bandini and many more. He is best known for the role of Lord Shiva in the TV Serial Devon Ke Dev Mahadev. Prof. Fida Hassnain – 2015 |
2015 - Fida Hassnain was born in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He has travelled widely in Europe and Asia. He is a member of many national and international organizations pertaining to philospy, history anthropology and culture. He has written various articles on varied subjects. Some of his published books are Buddhist Kashmir, British Policy, Ladakh Moonland, Hindu Kashmir and many more.

Col. Ranveer Singh Jamwal - 2016 |
2016 – 224th Birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated at Royal Treat, Hari Niwas. The function was presided by Dr. Karan Singh. Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh award for his achievement in Mountaineering. Col. Ranveer has done the whole nation as well as the J&K state proud by climbing the Highest Mountain of the world “Mount Everest” three times and has the merit of climbing more than 24 high mountains across five continents. He is the only individual from J&K state who has climbed the mighty Mount Everest three times. |
Justice Tirath Singh Thakur – 2017 |
2017 – Justice Tirath Singh Thakur was born in village Batroo in Ramban, Jammu. He completed his early education and graduation from Jammu. He completed his law degree from Jammu University. He joined the Chamber of his father Devi Das Thakur. He practised in civil, criminal and constitutional, taxation and service and service matters in the High Court of J&K. He was designated as a senior advocate in 1990. He was appointed as an additional judge of J&K on 16th Feburary 1994 and transferred as judge of the High Court of Karnataka in March 1994. He was transferred as the judge of the High Court of Delhi in 2004. He was appointed as Acting Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on 9 April 2008 and took over as the Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana on 11 August 2008. Soon he was elevated as the judge of the Supreme Court on 17th November 2009. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of India on 3rd December 2015. He retired on 4th January 2017. Sh. Ved Rahi – 2018 |
In 2018 226th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Abinav theatre. The major highlight of the occasion was Shri Ved Rahi ji. His contribution to the Bollywood film industry is noteworthy. He has written stories, film scripts, directed 5 films and many more. The government of Maharashtra conferred on him the award of “Maharashtra Gaurav” in 1990. In 2011 the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan honoured him with the prestigious Maha Pandit Sankritayan award. In 2012, the Jammu and Kashmir gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award. As the native place of Ved Rahiji is Jammu, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust under the Chairmanship of Dr. Karan Singh ji awarded him the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award. |
Ms. Manu Khajuria – 2019 |
Ms. Manu Khajuria is a freelance writer, commentator, activist from Jammu and Kashmir. She is Honor’s in sociology from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi. She holds a Masters in Social Sciences from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai and a certificate in community based development from Colorado State University, USA. She was awarded WebWonderWomen 2019 by Ministry of Women and Child Development by the government of India.
She is the founder of an organization called as the Voice of Dogras which espouses the rights of the Dogras and aims to protect and promote their historical cultural legacy. She has presented many research papers outside the state and abroad. She is associated with the creation and scripting of audio visual contest of two documentaries in collaboration with the Hari Tara Charitable Trust, Jammu.
Hailing as she does from Jammu, the trustees of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust under the Chairmanship of Dr. Karan Singh have decided that the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2019 be presented to Ms. Manu Khajuria to honour her outstanding contribution in the promotion of Dogra culture, history and legacy. The award carries a citation and Rs 2 lakh. |
Mr. Ravinder Jamwal – 2021 |
Ravinder Jamwal is an established name in the world of art. He is the artist behind Statues of Dogra Heroes of Jammu.
Son of the soil, he after acquiring Bachelors from Institute of Music and Fine Arts in 1986 from Jammu, he completed his Post Graduation in Portraiture from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda.
He uses paper, plastic, snow, metal and other mediums for his creative work.
He has been conferred with many awards, prominent among them being All India Fine Art and Crafts Society, New Delhi 1995-1996, National award by Lalit Kala Academy, New Delhi 1996, All India Exhibition of Art, at Amritsar 1996, All India Fine Art and Craft Society, New Delhi 1995-1996, Best Artist Award by ANN- Kashmir Images 2006-2007, Dogra Rattan Award in 2013, Rising Personality of India award, Favourite Duggar Personality award by 92.7 F.M in 2016.
He was also registered in LIMCA BOOK OF RECORDS in 2009. He is one of the few artists from India who have been honoured with the membership of Royal British Society of Sculptors, London.
Shri Ravinder has created nearly 60 statues of many historical personalities and most of them are installed at all the prominent places of Jammu City. Among them are, the Jambulochan Statue at Shalamar road, Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Satwari, General Zorawar Singh statue at Bahu Plaza, Bikram Singh statue at Bikram Chowk, Statue of Mian Dido at Amphalla, Statue of Maharaja Hari Singh on Royal Chair, in the Hari Singh Park, Brigadier Rajender Singh Statue at the back of Secretariat. Currently he is engaged in the project involving the making of the sculpture of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of the largest Princely State, at Lakhanpur.
The canvass of his contribution to the world of art in general and that for the regions of Jammu and Kashmir in particular is so vast and varied that it is difficult for anyone to summarise them in words or in few lines.

Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri – 2022 |
Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri was born in Udhampur, on 9th November, 1944. His father was a man of progressive ideas and left an indelible impression on him. While his fatherwas well versed is Sanskrit and Persian, while his mother Smt. Krishana Devi who died due to Liver Cancer at the young age of 34,was a social worker and an active member of various Sevadal in 1947 the year when India gained independence and also the year which witnessed partition andsufferings. Dr. Udhampuri did his schooling in Udhampur and moved to Jammu, where he joined the Government Gandhi Memorial Science College. However, due to ailments of his mother, he had to return to Udhampur to take care of his younger siblings, without completing his studies. He joined the Indian Army but continued his interrupted studies while still serving.Subsequently, took his master's degree in history and earned thedoctorate in Dogri.
Prof.JitendraUdhampuriis an erudite scholar, a distinguished writer, enterprising broadcaster and one of the pioneers of the Dogri literary and cultural movement. His dedication and continuous service to the cause of Dogri is a source of inspiration to youngpoets, writers and artists. His work is a kaleidoscope of vignettes from contemporary life. Near about40 books including his magnum opus on the history of Dogri literature, is an authentic assessment of growth and development of Dogri language and literature. History of Dogra culture,Jitto the first epic in Dogri literature, five collections of DogriGhazels, DuggarNaama, a collection of his longpoems on beauty, , bravery and cultural ethos of Dograland, Tanhaiyan his collection of selected Urdu poetry and Sailaba very rich work of poetry on devastating floods in J&K during September 2014, SufianaKalam,DilDarveshSajda and Judaiyan rare and rich collection of his SufianaPoetry in Punjabi which convey the message of love, compassion and piety in the Militancy torn State of Jammu &Kashmir.
He has contributed more than One hundred research oriented articles and about 250 Radio Features on various aspects of socio culture subjects.
His dedication andservice to the cause of Dogri language and literature has been recognized by numerous honours and awards conferred on him at the State, national and international levels. Among theseare included the prestigious Padmashri,Sahitya Academic award-1981, National award by the Central Hindi Directorate, Ministry of Education New Delhi 1990, seniorfellowship by Union Ministry of Culture 2007,variousawards by the Governor of J&K and “World Medal of Honour” 2004 by the American Biographical Institute USA.

Kritika Khanna was born on 16th February 1985 into a family that embodies simplicity and unity. Her Father is a retired Chief Education Officer, while her mother is a Master Grade teacher. Kritika Khanna’s early education at Presentation Convent Higher Secondary School in Jammu shaped her academic pursuits' foundation. Her horizons expanded by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Multimedia and succeeded in attaining an MBA in Human Resources. Kritika has emerged as an extraordinary individual despite her physical handicap. As Assistant Manager at J & K Grameen Bank, she blends her financial prowess with an artist's heart, relentlessly redefining the boundaries of what is achievable.
Kritika’s journey encompasses a monumental milestone asshe stands proud as India's First Female Para Rower. Her path as a para-athlete has been defined by triumph over obstacles, serving as a living testament that disability is no impediment to success.She has received many awards prominent are Bronze Medal at a Para-Rowing Team event in the Asian Rowing Championship 2019 held in South Korea, the Women Achiever Award by JKRLH UMEED; J&K Certified of Excellence by Fulkari 2021;the Youth Icon Award by JIGER NGO on world disability Day and others.
