One of the major activity of the trust is to celebrate the birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, the founder of the modern state of Jammu and Kashmir
2009 – 217th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust on 21st October 2009 at Durbar Hall, Amar Mahal. Dr. karan Singh ji presided the function. The major highlight of the function was the release of Maharaja Gulab Singh’s postage stamp.
2010 - 218th Birth Anniversary was celebrated at Jeo Poto Ghat at Akhnoor. The unveiling ceremony of Tilak ceremony of Maharaja Gulab Singh by Maharaja Ranjit Singh was done by Dr Karan Singh ji.
2011 - 219th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated at Ranvijay Royal Retreat, Jammu. The function was presided by Dr Karan Singh ji. Shri Balwant Thakur, noted theatre director was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award by the sole Trustee Dr Karan Singh ji.
2012 - 220th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was Celebrated at Ranvijay Royal Treat. Noted Sanskrit scholar and educationist Prof. Ved Kumari Ghai was conferred Maharaja Gulab Singh Award.
2013 - 221th Birth Anniversary was celebrated in association with ICCR at Zorawar Singh Auditorium. Mr Mohit Raina, television and bollywood actor best known for the lead role of Lord in the T.V serial “Devon ke Dev Mahadev” was awarded eighth Maharaja Gulab Singh Award.
The major highlight of the occasion was a musical presentation of “Gulab Gatha” in Dogri which was conceived, designed and directed by Shri Balwant Thakur.
2014 - 222nd Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated at Durbar Hall, Amar Mahal. It was presided by Dr. SS Baloria former chief secretary Jammu & Kashmir, Former VC Central University Jammu. Maharaja Gulab Singh organised the “Inaugural Lecture of Maharaja Gulab Singh on the Sum of Seven Desires - The Politics of Accommodating Diversity” The lecture was delivered by Prof. Varun Sahni, Vice-Chancellor University of Jammu.
2015 - 223rd Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh in association with ICCR was celebrated at General Zorwar Singh Auditorium. Prof. Fida Hassanian was awarded the ninth Maharaja Gulab Singh award by Chairman Trustee Dr Karan Singh ji.
The major highlight of the occasion was a musical dramatic presentation of “Gulab Gatha” in Dogri which was conceived, designed and directed by Shri Balwant Thakur.
2016 - 224th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated at Royal Treat, Hari Niwas and Dr. Karan Singh ji presided the function. Col Ranveer Singh Jamwal was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh award for his achievement in mountaineering, especially his three successful Mount-Everest climbs.
2017 - 225th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated at Abhinav Theatre. The function was presided by Dr. Karan Singh ji. Shri Tirath Singh Thakur, former Chief Justice of India, was awarded the Maharaja Gulab Singh award. The major highlight of the occasion was the film “ Gulab Gatha” directed by Shri Balwant Thakur.
2018 - 226th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Abinav theatre. The major highlight of the occasion was Shri Ved Rahi ji. His contribution to the Bollywood film industry is noteworthy. He has written stories, film scripts, directed 5 films and many more. The government of Maharashtra conferred on him the award of “Maharashtra Gaurav” in 1990. In 2011 the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan honoured him with the prestigious Maha Pandit Sankritayan award. In 2012, the Jammu and Kashmir gave him the Lifetime Achievement Award. As the native place of Ved Rahiji is Jammu, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust under the Chairmanship of Dr. Karan Singh ji awarded him the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award.
2019 - 227th Birth Anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh was celebrated by Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust. The function was presided by Dr.Karan Singh Ji, the Chairman Trustee of Maharaja Gulab Singh Trust. During the function, Dr. Karan Singh ji presented the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2019 to Manu Khajuria, a young woman from Jammu, settled in London. She is the founder of an organisation called the Voice Of Dogras, which espouses the rights of the Dogras and aims to preserve and promote their historical cultural legacy. View the Photo Gallery

2021 -To celebrate the 229th birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, function was organised by Maharaja Gulab Singh memorial trust at Amar Mahal on 21st Oct 21. The function started with the prayer by the students of Delhi Public School, Jammu. It was followed by a welcome note by Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh. After the welcome note the book "Life and Legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh" was released by Hon'ble Dr. Karan Singh Ji, Chairman Trustee, Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust.
Major-General Govardhan Singh Jamwal, AVSM (retd.) and Shri Harbans Singh spoke on early life of Maharaja Gulab Singh and traced the process through which he acquired the status of Maharaja.
Brig. J.S. Rajput (retd.), Member Secretary of Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust read the citation of Shri RavinderJamwal. Shri Jamwal was chosen to be conferred the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award for his contribution in the field of Sculptor. He is the artist behind statues of Dogra heroes of Jammu, among them are General Zorawar Singh statue, Jambulochan statue and many more. He has been conferred with many awards.
Dr. Karan Singh Ji presented the Maharaja Gulab Singh award to Shri Ravinder Jamwal. Dr. Karan Singh Ji, in his presidential remarks, underlined the necessity of revisiting the life and time of Maharaja Gulab Singh. He emphasised that Maharaja Gulab Singh was multi faced personality and they all need to be brought in to the centre stage of academic and research. In this context, he particularly emphasised his role in Ladakh.
Dr. Karan Singh Ji further spoke on the release of book "Life and Legacy of Maharaja Hari Singh". He said that Maharaja Hari Singh, on the day of his Raj-Tilak, announced "I have no religion, justice is my religion". He was a significant social reformer. The Maharaja was responsible for an efficient administration with some excellent public facilities such as hospitals and colleges both in Jammu and Srinagar.
The function was attended by the eminent members of civil society, member of the academic fraternity of the University of Jammu, Research scholars.
Maharaj Kumar Ajatshatru Singh extended the vote of thanks.

2022 - To celebrate the 230" birth anniversary of Maharaja Gulab Singh, a function was organised by the Maharaja Gulab Singh Memorial Trust at Amar Mahal on 21" October 2022.The function started with a welcome speech by Rajkumari Dr. Jyotsna Singh, Director, Amar Mahal Museum and Library.
This was followed by Prof. Shyam Narayan Lal from the University
of Jammu who deliberated about the life and illustrious career of
Maharaja Gulab Singh which made him one of the most
compelling warriors and empire builders in 19" century history of
India. He was one of the rare rulers in Indian history who left the
footprints of his sovereignty even in the very difficult terrains such
as those of Gilgit, Baltistan and Ladakh.
The next speaker Prof. Shashi Pathania, former faculty from the Department of Dogri, University of Jammu, gave a detailed overview about the rich cultural heritage of the Jammu region. Speaking in Dogri language, she brought out a vivid picture of theland, its fairs and festivals, food, folk dance, songs, etc.
Dr. Karan Singh, Chairman Trustee Maharaja Gulab Singh Trust, presented the Maharaja Gulab Singh Award 2022 to Dr. Jitendra Udhampuri for the his appreciable contribution in the field of the Dogri language and literature over several decades.
This was followed by the release of the book entitled Life and Legacy of Maharaja Gulab Singh' explaing significant articles from a number of historians.
